Siege at the old Natwest bank on Charing Cross Road

Standard

In a fine display of Christmas cheer, police have just raided a squat on Charing Cross Road, turning out the occupants.

Police are surrounding the building. Some of the squatters are now protesting outside, whilst others refuse to leave, climbing out on to window ledges to evade the police.

The squatters say it is an illegal eviction, and showed me letters they have approving their residence until 29th December.

The squatters have also been running a food drive so that they could prepare meals for the homeless on Christmas Day – which of course has now been waylaid due to their eviction.

That all seems a bit shitty right? Really couldn’t have waited until Boxing Day, at the least? Bah humbug.
